This site has a variety of interactive lessons for students.  Secondary language arts lessons include: investigating historical and cultural contexts in a variety of primary source examples; exploring the elements of literature through a short story; and a "spelling bee" for any grade level.

For free streaming professional development videos, click on the Home tab and look through what Annenberg Media Learner.org has to offer.

http://reading.ecb.org/ "Into the Book is a reading comprehension resource for K-4 students and teachers that focuses on eight research-based strategies: Using Prior Knowledge, Making Connections, Questioning, Visualizing, Inferring, Summarizing, Evaluating and Synthesizing"  This is an excellent resource!  Not only do the interactive videos in the student section do an excellent job of explaining each reading strategy, but the teachers section offers lesson plans, downloadable songs, posters, bookmarks, rubrics, worksheets, and graphic organizers.  Check this one out!  Cindy Hollingsworth, SpServ.

From the Story Cove "About Us" page:

"Story cove folktales come from a variety of cultures and places. They share timeless values and simple, universal lessons.  Children will enjoy watching the Movies and exploring the activities and games that are linked to that story.  Activities are designed for one-on-one, personal play with interactive puzzles, music fun and hidden pictures.  Lesson Plans extend the story elements to explore the original story with projects and activities that require interaction with adults or other members of the family away from the PC."

You have to sign up for the site, but it's free.

http://www.storylineonline.net/index2.html The Screen Actors Guild Foundation sponsors this site.  Actual actors and actresses read well-known picture books through video streaming with expression!  The videos include illustrations froms the book as well.  Finally, a website that shows the book AND reads it to the kids!  This is a great addition to any student computer to enhance fluency and a lifelong love of reading!
